Directly situated in the centre of the old village Ootmarsum lies a surprisingly beautiful open air museum. A beautiful 
place with threes and water lodges are divided in half by a beautiful creek. Once this place were the gardens of Havezathe, the Hoge Huys te Ootmarsum.
During the middle ages he was a wealthy German from the order of knighthood. In a later stage this became the residents of Rijksgraven van Heiden Hompesch tot Ootmarsum, drosten van Twente. In short the land of gentlemen.
On this gentlemens land there are several authentic farms. The original decorated farms give you a great feeling and picture into how these people lived and worked several ages ago. These farms are kept alive by using them for demonstration or events. With right it is called “land of gentlemen and farmers”.
